L412
The L412 is the first device of the L-series still in production and follows directly after the R400. In terms of quality, it follows the R series: i.e. below the T series, but above the E series (which is aimed at consumers). The housing (no internal magnesium frame and lack of rubberisation) and the UltraBay have to be discounted. There are only fixed drives, which are not compatible with other ThinkPads and do not support hotswapping. There is no keyboard illumination or docking port and the BIOS is also slightly different.
My L412 comes from a customs auction. The device was used in a government office and therefore has neither a webcam nor a WLAN module. In general, it has the weakest possible configuration. The display has a low resolution and is also reasonably dark. Apart from that, the workmanship is solid - which is not always the case with cheaper devices.
The status LEDs have been moved to the front of the housing on the right, which should be familiar to enthusiasts from the SL300. The arrangement of the speakers below the screen looks unusual, the keyboard is on a par with the T and R series.
