The X301 is the second and last model in the X3xx series and was manufactured between August 2008 and May 2010. The series forms the basis for the subsequent X1 series (do not confuse with X1C!).

At the time, the series was intended as a response to the Apple MacBook Air, which was first released in January. This was presented by Steven Jobs as “the thinnest notebook in the world” - but had to do without numerous connections and also the optical drive. Lenovo used Apple’s iconic advertising clip in which the notebook was pulled out of an envelope. The parody shows numerous adapters and a DVD drive - and also an X300, which combines all these functions in one device (“We don’t add stuff on. We build it in.”). The only thing that remains unmentioned is the elimination of the docking port, expansion card slot and card reader.

The X3xx series is interesting because it can be described as the predecessor of the Ultrabooks. Compared to the already known X2xx series, it has larger screens and integrated optical drives. Frequent points of criticism are the rather weak ULV CPU as well as weaknesses in the casing on the right hinge.

Due to the short production time, the X301 is now difficult to obtain.
