Secure Hard Drive 3.0
The ThinkPad Secure HDD 3.0 is an external USB hard drive in ThinkPad design with hardware encryption. In my case, it is a 1 TB USB 3.0 hard drive with a numeric keypad for use and configuration.
Content is encrypted with AES-XTS (256-bit) - regardless of the operating system. Although only Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, 7) is mentioned as a supported operating system, other operating systems such as Linux also work.
Encryption is handled by the built-in controller. An administrative PIN and up to 10 PINs can be defined for use. PINs must be between 8 and 16 digits long. The hard drive can be configured so that PINs entered incorrectly too often lead to data loss.
