SL500
Das SL500 ist das erste Modell der SL5xx-Serie. Qualitätstechnisch ist es, wie alle Geräte der Serie, unterhalb der T- und R-Serie einzuordnen. Es handelt sich hier um ein Consumer-Gerät, einige ThinkPad-typische Features, wie das ThinkLight oder der Docking Station-Port fehlen. Das optische Laufwerk ist fest verbaut, das BIOS unterscheidet sich ebenfalls.
Der Display-Deckel ist in Klavierlack-Optik gehalten. Eine weitere Auffälligkeit sind die an der Gehäusefront befindlichen Status-LEDs - ein Design-Element, welches auch das L412 und L420 aufgreifen. Generell übernahm die L-Serie das Design der SL-Serie.
Das Gerät ist mit 15.4" recht wuchtig. Trotz eines fairen Preises war das Gerät recht unbeliebt - was vermutlich auch dem glänzenden Display zu verdanken ist. Die SL-Serie wurde nicht lange produziert und durch E-Serie ersetzt. Die Klavierlack-Optik erinnert stark an die S3x-Serie. Das Notebook ist an der linken und rechten Gehäuseseite stark angewinkelt, was das Benutzen einiger Gerät unnötig erschwert.
